We, along with other family members & friends, were invited to Mallorca in September for a two week birthday bash. Our hosts had rented a villa near Campos in the south east of the island, about 30 minutes drive from Palma airport. It was our first visit to Mallorca and we were quite impressed with the lifestyle & ease of getting around. Mind, having said that, it was off season and still fairly crowded in the more popular areas, and parking proved quite a challenge on occasion. The villa, S'hort Gran d'es Palmer, was rented through VRBO, and it did not disappoint, although the pool was a bit on the chilly side. We spent most of the first week hanging around the villa, although our hosts had arranged a visit to The Santa Catarina Vineyard for an excellent wine tasting and picnic lunch. Word of caution, the drive to the vineyard is not for the faint of heart. However, the wines proved a hit and we departed with 12 cases in the trunk! During week 2 we were more adventurous and took in the north, and west coasts, with visits to Pollenca, Port de Pollenca, Cap de Formentor, Valldemossa, and Porto Soller. We also took in the lively Wednesday street market in Santanyi, a town close to the villa with a large German expatriate presence. We were expecting Mallorca to be all mountains when in fact the south east is very flat, with reputedly the best beaches on the island, although the ones we saw did not overly impress. However, I suspect we will go back to Mallorca some day.
