In June 2014 we took a 3 week cruise on the Seabourn Legend through the Norwegian Fjords, around the North Cape and on to Spitzbergen and the Arctic Icecap. We touched the Arctic Icecap at 80 degrees North. Cruises can be a bit of a hit or miss, but on this cruise all the elements came together beautifully. Passengers, crew, weather, and Captain Dag who never missed an opportunity to throw something unexpected at us, from bartering for fresh fish in the middle of the ocean, to stopping off for waffles in the middle of nowhere - you just had to be there. And to cap it all spotting a polar bear on Spitzbergen.
The cruise embarked and disembarked in Copenhagen. I found Copenhagen expensive and Norway doubly so. Making visiting Norway by cruise ship the only way to go!
Seabourn Legend has been sold to Windstar, along with her sister ship the Spirit, and this is her last season with Seabourn. While seasoned small ship cruisers were lamenting their loss, I felt that the Legend had seen her best days and look forward to sailing on her larger replacement.
